  7. In 1984 and 1985 Ramirez went on a 14-month rampage, terrifying
  8. Angelenos by leaving satanic symbols at murder sites and forcing
  9. victims to swear allegiance to the devil. The jury returned its
  10. verdict after 22 days of deliberation. Ramirez, captured four
  11. years ago by an angry mob that recognized him from police
  12. sketches, muttered a single word as he was led from the
  13. courthouse: "Evil."
